Legend has it that during the Gold Rush of the 1800s a gold miner, his wife and his family lived in this area just southeast of Kingman, Arizona in the heart of the canyon. The miner would head out every 2 weeks in search of food and gold to return with for his family. After one fateful trip though, the husband did not return and soon his family began to starve. Luana, his wife, then decided to end the lives of their children. Nowadays wailing and screams can be heard at night within the canyon.

Canyon Nights

As a teen growing up in Kingman we all heard the stories of Slaughterhouse Canyon. My brother and I would go out to have bonfires and be hooligans, one night at a minute after midnight we heard what sounded like a wailing cry echo all around us, we looked for about half an hr before deciding to go home. It was so creepy and cool.
